\"\" The Council of Ministers has approved the update of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC<\/strong>, in spanish), which sets more ambitious goals<\/strong> for sustainability and energy independence<\/strong> by 2030. According to the new plan, Spain aims to achieve 50% energy autonomy<\/strong> by the end of the decade, thus reducing its reliance on fossil fuels<\/strong> and enhancing renewable energy<\/strong> sources.
Among the most significant changes, the PNIEC plans to increase the share of renewables in final energy consumption to 48%<\/strong>. Additionally, efforts to electrify<\/strong> key sectors such as transport<\/strong> and industry<\/strong> are being intensified, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions <\/strong>by 32% compared to 1990 levels.
The revised PNIEC also highlights the importance of accelerating the deployment of renewables <\/strong>in the electricity system, with a target to generate 81% of electricity from clean sources by 2030.<\/strong> This will be accompanied by significant investments in energy storage infrastructures<\/strong> and power grids<\/strong>.
